FAQ

Answers about logging, pricing, privacy, safety, and the product as it works today.

Logging & accuracy

How do I log food?

Type or say it, like you'd text a friend: "two eggs, toast and an apple after the gym." Nutians extracts the foods, matches them against USDA and Open Food Facts, and shows each item as an editable entry. You can also scan a barcode.

What if the AI gets something wrong?

Every entry is editable — quantity, food, or the macros directly. If you state macros yourself ("a yogurt with 20 g protein"), we use your numbers. Corrections can be remembered, so the same food resolves your way next time.

Can I log past meals?

Yes. Swipe back on Today to open any past day and add what you forgot — retro-logging is first-class, never guilt-framed. "Yesterday's dinner was…" works too; days recalculate automatically, in your timezone.

Do I have to weigh everything?

No. Sensible portion defaults apply when you don't specify; you can always tighten a number later. Rhythm beats precision.

Do I have to retype meals I eat often?

No. Type # in the composer to drop a saved meal into your sentence — "#chicken bowl but quinoa instead of rice" re-scores only the change and shows the diff. You can also copy a whole day or a single meal forward, quick-add macros when you already know them, and build custom foods and simple recipes once and reuse them — all free.

Plans & pricing

What's really free?

Logging is free forever — unlimited, with full database matching. The whole Today experience is identical on every plan: the timeline, learned meal-time slots, nudges, planned items, and the week view are never gated. Lite also includes saved meals, copy-a-day and quick-add, your weight log with a smoothed trend, the activity calendar (no streaks), a basic micronutrient panel, daily and weekly summaries, the barcode scanner, protein-gap alerts, coach chat on a message battery that refills through the day, and 60 days of history.

What does Premium add?

Adaptive coaching is the heart of it: a weekly check-in learns your real energy expenditure from your intake and weight trend, then gently adjusts your targets — and always shows you why they changed. Premium also adds planning (meal and week templates, “build the rest of my day”, and a grocery list), the full micronutrient panel with nutrient-gap insights, AI narrative insights, unlimited coach chat, 10 photo/label scans a day, full history, and PDF reports. The depth is algorithmic, not “more AI”.

How does the trial work?

Every new account gets full Premium for 14 days. No card up-front; when it ends you simply continue on Lite unless you subscribe. One trial per verified phone number.

How do I cancel?

Through your App Store / Play subscription settings (or your billing portal on web), anytime. No retention dark patterns — that's a written rule.

Privacy & data

Where is my data and who sees it?

In EU data centers, processed by EU-hosted AI (Mistral) under a data-processing agreement with zero retention. We don't sell data, run ads, or let models train on your logs.

If I track my cycle, how is that protected?

Cycle tracking is opt-in and treated as special-category health data. Those entries are encrypted with a key tied to your account, are never used for ads or model training, and are excluded from coach sharing. Withdraw consent anytime and the data is crypto-shredded.

Safety & scope

Is Nutians medical advice?

No. It's a wellness tool for tracking and habits. For medical conditions or prescribed diets, work with a professional.

Who is Nutians not for?

If tracking food feels harmful — or you have a history of disordered eating — calorie counting may do more harm than good. Our onboarding includes a brief screener and we'll point you to better resources. No streaks, no shame mechanics, ever. Nutians is 18+.

Product

Which languages and units?

English and Portuguese at launch (more coming); kg/lb and kcal/kJ follow your locale. The coach answers in the language you write.

Will it nag me with notifications?

No. At most one suggestion is visible at a time, it leads with a number ("~25 g protein to go"), and it's always dismissible. Push and in-app are the same object — dismiss either and both clear. Nudges never appear on past days, and you can turn them off entirely.

How does Nutians learn my meal times?

From your own logs — pure statistics, no AI. After about five days of a pattern, Today starts sketching your usual meal times as gentle invitations showing the room you have left. It's announced once, never says "missed", and has an off switch in the You tab.

How long does it take to get started?

About 15 seconds. Onboarding is doing: you watch a day happen — say food, the math appears, the app reacts — then log a practice meal yourself. It lands in your real day, and you can keep it or toss it.

Photos of meals?

Yes — photograph your meal or scan a nutrition label and Nutians extracts the macros automatically. You can also just ask "what's on this plate?" — snap a photo to get ingredients and an estimate without logging anything, then turn it into a real log with one tap if you want. All of it shares the same quota: 2 scans per day free, 10 on Premium. Barcode scanning is unlimited on all plans.

How does the weekly check-in work?

Log your weight when you like — Nutians smooths it into a trend so day-to-day noise doesn't rattle you. Once a week, Premium's adaptive engine compares what you ate to how that trend moved, estimates your real energy expenditure, and proposes a small target tweak (capped for safety). It always explains the why, and you confirm before anything changes.

Can I plan meals ahead?

Yes, on Premium. Save meal and week templates, ask Nutians to “build the rest of my day” toward your remaining targets, and turn a plan into a grocery list. Plans are suggestions — nothing logs until you say so.

Does it connect to Apple Health or Health Connect?

Yes. You can import weight and steps from Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android) and export your nutrition back to them. The sync is opt-in, runs through the platform’s own permission prompt, and stays on your device until you approve it.

Can I track my menstrual cycle?

Optionally. Cycle tracking is opt-in and shows a phase overlay for free. On Premium it makes your weekly review smarter — it recognises normal cycle-related water-weight so your review stays calm instead of overreacting to it, framed as reassurance rather than precision. Your cycle data is encrypted and never shared.

Can I share my progress with a coach or partner?

Yes, on Premium. Invite a coach or partner by email and they get a read-only view of your week — weight trend, logging calendar, target history, and weekly summary. Your chat and individual food entries are never shared, and you can stop sharing at any time. Cycle data is always excluded.
